October 2025 Newsletter

During October, our focus is a four-week sermon series exploring some of the powerful parables found in the Gospel of Matthew. We will dive into the teachings of Jesus that challenge and inspire us to live lives marked by faith, purpose, and lasting commitment. As we reflect on these teachings, let’s consider together what it means to leave a spiritual legacy—one that shapes our families, communities, and future generations for the Kingdom of God.

There are other exciting opportunities to plug into during October. The quarterly Men’s Breakfast will be on Saturday, October 11, at 8 am in the Fellowship Hall. This is a chance to dive deeper into God's Word, but also an opportunity to build relationships with other men in the church. Invite a friend who might not typically attend a church service – all are welcome! There will also be a workday on Saturday, October 11, at 9 am, following breakfast. Several projects are lined up for our campus, so please join in and help complete them.

I also want to invite you to participate in Operation Christmas Child as we aim to fill 125 shoeboxes for children in need around the world. Your help is needed to reach this goal! Please consider bringing items like washcloths, crayons, pencils, and small toys for boys and girls. Items such as jump ropes, Hot Wheels, bouncy balls, and jacks are perfect. Remember, large items cannot be sent, so please keep donations small and portable. Check with Jacky Johns if there are questions or if you prefer to make a monetary donation. Your contribution, no matter how small, will bring joy and the Gospel message to a child this Christmas.

Thank you for your support and prayers as we continue to serve both locally and globally!

The WAY Youth Movement

In his book, The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer wrote: “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”

High school students across America met at their school’s flagpole for prayer on September 24. They came together by turning away from everything else and, for a moment, turned their attention to God. There is no greater show of force on our high school campuses than Christian students coming together to pray for their schools and fellow students at the flagpole. This is the power of countless pianos all tuned to the same fork and automatically tuned to each other.

Music Note

Why should I join the choir? If someone asked me that question, I would probably tell them that the choir is a vital member of the worship team and the mere act of standing in the front of the church singing praises to God encourages others in the congregation to do the same.

But did you know that singing in a choir is actually beneficial for your health? It offers a unique mix of social, physical, and emotional benefits. It builds community by connecting people through shared musical goals, while also improving posture, breathing, and lung capacity. The mental challenge of learning music sharpens focus and memory, and the act of singing releases mood-boosting endorphins and oxytocin that reduce stress and foster belonging. Beyond the music, choir participation boosts confidence, creativity, and overall well-being.

We are currently working on our Christmas cantata, Sing Christmas!, as well as preparing music for the worship services this fall. Come join our CVBC choir and see what it can do for and through you.

TEXANS ON MISSION

In a world full of pain and hurt, God calls His people to be beacons of light. Since 1967, Texans on Mission – historically called Texas Baptist Men – has sought to do just that by meeting needs and sharing God's love with millions of people during their most difficult days. Christian volunteers have delivered help, hope and healing to millions of hurting people and raised up the next generation to do likewise. As a result of that service, Texans on Mission have helped start and train disaster relief groups in all 50 states, giving birth to the third-largest disaster relief network in the nation.

Cedar Valley Baptist Church has a history with Texans on Mission. In 1989 this organization helped construct the sanctuary for CVBC. The building they constructed now serves as our Fellowship Hall. We appreciate our history with Texans on Mission, and our relationship with this mission-minded organization has continued through the years as we provide financial support through our CVBC Missions budget. If you are interested in serving at Texans on Mission or giving directly to their mission, you will find all the information needed at texansonmission.org.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  Mark 10:45

FEED THE NEED MISSIONS GOBBLE KITS

Each year at CVBC, we join our local mission partner, Feed the Need Missions, in making a difference for families in need in our community. We do this by donating Thanksgiving meal kits, complete with a turkey and all the trimmings.

Feed the Need Missions’ Gobble Kit program is about providing Thanksgiving meals to those in need, building connections, generating a positive impact in the lives of those facing difficulties, and engaging the whole community in something truly impactful.

Our goal this year is to provide 50 Gobble Kits to help feed those in need in our community. Instructions are included with each kit, making it easy to participate in this joyful missions activity. The kits will be available in the foyer on Sunday, October 19 and will be collected on Sunday, November 16.
